All families that apply for our assistance have experienced grief and loss. They need psychological rehabilitation and moral support. It's a pity that the state does not care for families of dead soldiers, and what is more, its cynical, inhuman officials cause new psychological traumas. We have encountered the cases when parents could not survive their grief and committed suicides. That's why we realize how they need our psychological support.
In 2009, the rehabilitation of parents of dead soldiers was in the hand of the volunteer psychologists, Ekaterina Schetkina, Anna Nechayeva, Ludmila Shiryaeva.
Sometimes we ourselves act as psychologists. That's why those wanting to work in our organization have to pass through a tough selection process. We take into consideration not only their qualifications but their personal qualities. A heard-hearted, indifferent person will never work in our group even if she (or he) is a brilliant expert.
Every year on February 23, the Mother's Right Foundation marks the Memorial Day devoted to those who died in the Army. For the Foundation workers, this day is not a holiday. We participate in a service for the dead soldiers. Hundreds of fathers and mothers, who have lost their sons in the ‘peacetime' army gather near a metro station. Then, they walk to a temple to support each other. (The first service was held in 1991. We ordered memorial services in different temples and then chose the Temple of All Saints of the former Novo-Alexeyevsky monastery. The abbot of the temple is father Artemy (Vladimirov). It's the place where parents feel deep sympathy, calm, and support. After a traditional service, priests talk to parents. They express their hope that the service has brought them consolation. Memorial lists stay in the temple: priests will pray for the deceased on other days.)
On February 23, 2009, the parents of dead servicemen came to the temple to pray for their sons. This time, even the militiamen who patrolled near the Krasnoselskaya station deserved the parents' gratitude. The service was performed by father Pavel. He also prayed for the sons of those who could not come to the temple. He also prayed for the boys who had not been baptized.
From year to year, we have been working with grieving people and we know how they need and appreciate our attention and sympathy. According to the tradition which appeared in 2002, we congratulated parents on their birthdays (a monthly issue - current month birthdays).
